Physical Damage Coverage Now Available to STAR Agents via RTA Program
STAR Mutual agents can now access RTA’s Physical Damage program—comprehensive, Lloyd’s-backed protection for fleets and owner-operators in PA, OH, NJ, with more states coming soon.
Knoxville, TN — July 3, 2025
New program brings competitively priced Physical Damage insurance to STAR-appointed agents and their clients in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey—with more states coming soon.
STAR Mutual Risk Retention Group is pleased to announce that agents now have access to a new U.S.-based Physical Damage insurance program, administered by the Reliable Transportation Association (RTA)—a managing general agent (MGA), Lloyd’s coverholder, and proud sponsor of STAR Mutual.
This launch marks a strategic expansion of STAR Mutual’s product accessibility via the platform, giving appointed agents streamlined access to Physical Damage coverage for eligible motor carriers and owner-operators across three initial states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey. The program will soon be expanding to Texas and California, with additional STAR-active states to follow in the coming months.
Program Overview: Comprehensive, Flexible, Backed by Lloyd’s
The Physical Damage program is administered by the Reliable Transportation Association and underwritten by Lloyd’s of London through several syndicates. It offers both Collision and Comprehensive coverage, shielding commercial vehicles against direct loss from a wide range of threats—including accidents, rollovers, theft, vandalism, fire, and weather-related events. Whether a vehicle is owned, leased, or financed, this program is built to serve owner-operators and small fleets.
"Our mission is to empower agents and insureds with access to the kind of protection that truly keeps business moving. By offering Physical Damage coverage through the STAR Mutual ecosystem and backing it with Lloyd’s strength, we’re delivering on that promise."
Aligned Underwriting. Simplified Process. Lower Costs.
The underwriting appetite closely mirrors STAR Mutual RRG’s standards, making the transition seamless for existing agents and insureds. Ideal risks include experienced businesses with:
Favorable loss ratios
Clean MVRs (motor vehicle records)
A strong operational track record
Each additional year of experience can help reduce premium rates.
In addition, RTA’s no-finance-cost model removes administrative friction—no premium financing, no moving parts, and fewer paperwork burdens. This means faster onboarding, lower total costs for clients, and a simpler experience for agents and brokers.
How to Access the Program
Agents currently appointed with STAR Mutual RRG can request immediate access to the Physical Damage program. If you are a commercial insurance agent looking to grow your book with high-quality transportation insurance solutions, you may request an appointment through STAR Mutual to gain eligibility.
“RTA is more than just an MGA—we’re a strategic engine behind STAR’s distribution and innovation. This Physical Damage rollout represents the next phase of accessible, high-performance protection for the trucking industry.”
Serving a Critical Need in the Commercial Auto Market
Today’s trucking professionals need insurance solutions that are not only comprehensive, but responsive to the operational realities of the road. The Physical Damage program is structured with that in mind—providing vital protection, accelerating recovery after a loss, and helping minimize downtime for businesses that rely on every vehicle.
With its unique combination of underwriting strength, broad carrier support, and modern MGA technology, the new program aims to serve as a critical asset for transportation-focused agents and their clients across the country.
Available Now—With Expansion Underway
The program is live in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey, and Texas and California are next in line. Over time, Reliable Transportation Association intends to roll out the Physical Damage product across all states where STAR Mutual RRG writes business—ensuring consistent access and support for agents across the STAR Mutual network.
